Our event of the day is day one of the Rugby World Cup Sevens at AT&T Park in San Francisco. The three-day tournament will consist of both Men’s and Women’s competitions and will feature a total of 29 nations. New Zealand are the defending champions as both their Men’s and Women’s teams claimed victory in 2013 when it was last held in Russia. New Zealand, a perennial powerhouse in the sport of rugby, enter this year’s event as early favourites in both competitions. Other challengers in the men’s tournament include the 2018 World Series winner, South Africa, as well as Fiji, England and Australia. Another squad to keep an eye on will be the host nation United States. The US have built a solid rugby program in recent years and will be fuelled by playing at home in front of their fans. In the women’s event, Australia and Canada both have a great chance for the title.

Our event of the day is the opening round of the 147th Open Championship at Carnoustie Golf Links on the North Sea Coast in Scotland. The oldest tournament in golf, the Open Championship is the only Major to be held outside of the United States. Carnoustie first held the tournament in 1931 and with this year’s rendition will have hosted it eight times in total. Considered one of the best courses in the world, Carnoustie has a reputation for being one of the toughest as well. The seaside course is 7,400 yards long and has it’s fair share of nasty blind spots and treacherous bunkers. Golfers can usually count on gusty winds and wet weather as well.

Our event of the day is Stage 11 of the Tour de France, the first summit finish of this year’s tour. Riders will climb through the French Alps in the second of three mountain stages in successive days. Measuring 108. 5 kilometres from Albertville to La Rosière Espace San Bernardo, this is the shortest of the three mountain stages. However, with nearly half of those 108. 5 kilometres being uphill, this will be equally as punishing.  All eyes are on the dynamic of Team Sky’s Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas. Four-time winner Froome went into the tour as Sky’s team leader. However, Thomas, who is a double Olympic champion in the team pursuit, has been given the freedom to race for himself during the first part of the tour.
